The Fire, The Sound (1981)
[FR] The Sound est un groupe anglais des années 80 dans la lignée de Joy Division et Echo & the Bunnymen. Cependant, contrairement à ces deux formations, The Sound n’a jamais obtenu le succès qu’ils méritaient pourtant en dehors du Royaume-Uni (et les Pays-Bas). Le groupe rappelle également U2 dans le son et les manières vocales du leader Adrian Borland.
“The Fire”, issu de leur second et excellentissime album From the Lion’s Mouth, est un exutoire. Envoûtant, mélancolique, comme Ian Curtis, Adrian Borland est un écorché vif, un romantique désabusé. “I can’t change a thing! I can’t take a chance!”
[EN] The Sound was a British band active in the 80′s falling somewhere in between Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen. However, The Sound never gained the same success abroad as these two bands, in spite of deserving it (apart from Holland). The band also reminds U2 in the sound and in the way leader Adrian Borland sings.
“The Fire”, from their great second album From the Lion’s Mouth, acts as an outlet. Captivating, melancholic, Adrain Borland is a disillusioned romantic, as Ian Curtis was. “I can’t change a thing! I can’t take a chance!”
[ES] The Sound fueron un grupo activo durante los años 80, a medio camino entre Joy Division & Echo the Bunnymen. En cualquier caso nunca llegaron al éxito de estos. Recuerdan también a U2 por su sonido y el carisma de su cantante Adrian Borland.

j’ai découvert le premier album (jeopardy) de ce groupe il y a genre un mois , grosse claque
J’ai découvert the Sound en 1983-1984 avec justement “Fom the Lion’s mouth”. Cet album, ce groupe a changé ma vie. Le Rock qui m’intéressait certes déjà est devenu une Evidence qui depuis ne m’a plus quittée. Je me rends compte aujourd’hui à quel point mes goûts musicaux sont fondés sur The Sound et “From the Lion’s mouth”. Comme par hasard la période de l’histoire du rock qui m’intéresse le plus commence au début des années 1980 avec l’appartition de toute la mouvance Post Punk… J’aime les groupe à la fois péchus et mélodiques avec des lignes de basse très présentes… Je n’ai jamais compris pourquoi ce groupe n’a eu qu’un succès d’estime. La seule chose que je sais est qu’à chaque fois que j’ai fait découvrir The Sound a une personne, celle-ci a toujours beaucoup aimé, voire adoré… Ah j’oubliais : “From the Lion’s mouth” est mon album préféré de The sound (vous en doutiez ?) ; “The Fire”le morceau du LP que je préfère…
Adrian Borland et Graham Bailey étaient également et parallèlement membres de Second Layer entre 79 et 81. Le même son mais au service d’une atmosphère plus cold. A découvrir.
Adrian Borland s’est suicidé en 1999.
