One Note Samba, Pat Thomas (1963)
[FR] Pat Thomas était une chanteuse américaine de la région de Chicago, et c’est à peu près tout ce que l’on sait d’elle. Elle sortit trois albums dans les années 60, dont “Desafinado”, arrangé par Lalo Schifrin (dont le concert hier soir à Paris était grandiose), excusez du peu. On trouve également sur ce disque le guitariste Laurindo Almeida. Comme son nom l’indique, il s’agit d’un disque de bossa nova. On retrouve donc les classiques “Carnival”, “Bahia”, “Desafinado”, et “One Note Samba”, adapté du “Samba de Uma Nota So” de Tom Jobim. Une petite perle où la voix jazz-soul de Pat Thomas (injustement tombée dans l’oubli) rencontre la richesse des arrangements de Lalo Schifrin.
[EN] Pat Thomas was an American singer from the Chicago area, and it’s pretty much the only thing we know about her. She released three LPs in the 60′s, including “Desafinado”, arranged by Lalo Schifrin (which concert in Paris last night was amazing). The guitarist Laurindo Almeida is also included in the notes. As its name suggets, this is a bossa nova record. It features such classic songs as “Carnival”, “Bahia”, “Desafinado”, and “One Note Samba”, an adaptation of Tom Jobim‘s “Sambe de Uma Nota So”. A gem where Pat Thomas’s jazz-soul voice (unfairly fallen into oblivion) meets the richness of Lalo Schifrin’s arrangements.

Editó tres discos durante la decada de los 60, entre ellos “Desafinado”, dirigido por Lalo Schifrin (que por cierto el concierto en Paris el otro dia fué espectacular) y donde también participa el guitarrista Laurindo Almeida. Como el nombre lo sugiere, estamos delante de una grabación de bossa nova. Temazos como “Carnival”, “Bahia”, “Desafinado”, y “One Note Samba” la adaptación de Tom Jobim‘s “Samba de Uma Nota So” . Una mezcla donde las voces jazz-soul de Pat Thomas se encuentran con la riqueza de los arreglos de Lalo Schifrin.
