Senza Fine, Gino Paoli (1961)

[FR] Gino Paoli est un auteur-compositeur italien né en 1934 à Monfalcone, Italie. C’est cependant à Gênes qu’il grandit et élira domicile. Après avoir été graphiste quelque temps dans les années 50, il décide de dédier sa vie à la chanson. Il chante alors dans divers groupes locaux, ce qui lui permettra de se faire remarquer par la maison de disques Ricordi (aujourd’hui BMG). Son premier succès “La Gatta” sort en 1960, et sera suivi de “Sapore di Sale”, un de ses classiques, arrangé par Ennio Morricone. La même année, le chanteur souffre de difficultés psychologiques et tente de se suicider en se tirant une balle dans le coeur… Il survivra.

En 1961, il écrit et enregistre “Senza Fine”, une ballade inspirée par sa romance avec la chanteuse Ornella Vanoni. Musica leggera italiana par excellence, cette charmante chanson nous transporte quelques instants au large de Naples, sur l’Ile d’Ischia, lieu de l’intrigue d’Avanti!, la comédie de Billy Wilder dans laquelle on peut apprécier ce “Senza Fine”.

[EN] Gino Paoli is an Italian singer-songwriter born in 1934 in Monfalcone, Italy. He however moved to Genoa very early, where he decided to stay. After he worked as a graphic designer in the 50′s, he decided to focus on what he really thought he was talented for, the music. As he was singing in local bands, he is called by the label Ricordi (now BMG). His first success will be “La Gatta”, released in 1960 and will soon be followed by the classic “Sapore di Sale” arranged by Ennio Morricone. The same year, the singer suffers from psychological difficulties and attemps suicided by shooting at his heart… But he survived.

In 1961, he records “Senza Fine”, a ballad inspired by the his romance with singer Ornella Vanoni. A perfect musica leggera italiana, this charming song sends us for a few instants to the island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples, where the action of the movie Avanti! by Billy Wilder, in which we can enjoy “Senza Fine”, took place.
