The One and Only, Snoop Dogg (2002)

[FR] Snoop Dogg, de son vrai nom Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr., est un rappeur américain originaire de Long Beach, California. Il tient son nom de sa mère qui l’avait surnommé “Snoopy” en raison de son fanatisme pour le dessin animé Peanuts dans lequel apparaît le fameux chien. Snoop Dogg est aussi l’un des protégés de Dr Dre (le beau-frère de son meilleur pote Warren G lors de leur rencontre), qui lui permettra de faire son entrée sur le mythique label Death Row. Son premier album sorti en 1993, le bien nommé Doggystyle, fait l’apologie du G-funk (pour gangsta funk), un style de hip-hop West Coast généreusement inspiré de Parliament-Funkadelic.

Après quelques albums et un passage chez le label No Limit, il sort en 2002 Paid tha Cost to Be da Bo$$ sur lequel on retrouve ses premières collaborations avec les Neptunes ansi qu’avec DJ Premier qui produit ce groovy “The One and Only” qui sample un obscur morceau du chanteur soul Tyrone Davis. Fo’ shizzle, ma nizzle!

Her mother nicknamed him “Snoopy” because of his love for the comic strip Peanuts which features the famous dog. Snoop Dogg is also one of Dr Dre‘s protégés (then the stepbrother of his best friend Warren G) who whill bring him to mythic Death Row Records label. His first LP released in 1993, subtly named Doggystyle, helped popularizing G-funk (which stands for Gangsta funk), a West Coast hip-hop style generously inspired by Parliament-Funkadelic.

After a few LPs and another record deal on the No Limit label, he released Paid tha Cost to Be da Bo$$ in 2002, which features his first collaborations with the Neptunes as well as with DJ Premier who made this groovy “The One and Only” with a sample from an obscure track by soul singer Tyrone Davis.
