Serious, Richard Hawley (2007)

[FR] Venu de Sheffield en Angleterre, Richard Hawley est un auteur-compositeur à part. Guitariste de studio reconnu, il a travaillé avec REM, les All Saints et Gwen Stefani. Un palmarès qui pourrait rendre dubitatif, si son ami Jarvis Cocker, leader du groupe Pulp, ne s’en était pas mêlé. Après une tournée avec le groupe qui lui sauvra la vie (alors qu’il allait prendre goût à la drogue), Jarvis rend visite à Richard dans son Sheffield où il découvre les bandes demo sur lesquelles travaille Richard. Il ne lui en faut pas plus pour le pousser à enregistrer son premier album solo. Depuis Late Night Final en 2001, Richard Hawley n’a cessé de sortir des albums singuliers et personnels où il évoque sa ville natale. Il recycle les années 50 et ses crooners, avec des arrangements léchés et sophistiqués qui évoquent Roy Orbison et Scott Walker. Autant de mélodies attachantes. [EN] Born in Sheffield, England, where he still resides, Richard Hawley is a unique singer-songwriter. As a renowned studio guitarist, he worked for REM, All Saints and Gwen Stefani. Don’t run away though. After touring with Pulp, his close friend and frontman of the band Jarvis Cocker visited him in his Sheffield’s home where he discovered home demos of what Richard had recently been busy to. That will be enough for Jarvis to urge him to go to the studio and record his own LP. Since Late Night Final in 2001, Richard Hawley kept releasing singular and personnal albums in which he evokes his hometown. He recycles the 50′s sound and vocals with lush and sophisticated arrangements sounding like a blend of Roy Orbison and Scott Walker. Here goes “Serious”, an extract from his new album Lady’s Bridge.
