Bridget St John is a British singer-songwriter from London, active for the short period between from 1969 to 1974 when she moved to New York and disappeared from the musical scene. She had the opportunity to record her own songs thanks to legendary BBC DJ John Peel. In 1969, “Ask Me No Questions” was released on Peel’s label Dandelion, a surprising record in the folk context of this time, since the whole record is made of her own compositions.

With its delicate melody and arpeggios and her gentle voice, “Like Never Before” is a pretty seductive song in that time of the year. Bridget St John is the kind of singer who deserves to be listened to a few times before she reveales herself.

Tuvo la oportunidad de grabar sus canciones gracias al legendario DJ de la BBC: John Peel. En el año 1969 se edita “Ask Me No Questions” bajo el sello Dandelion de John Peel, un disco que destacó dentro de la escena folk de la época por estar compuesto íntegramente por ella.

“15 Step” ouvre In Rainbows, leur septième album. Unique morceau de l’album à utiliser une boîte à rythmes comme base rythmique, il évolue peu à peu vers des influences jazz. Thom Yorke chante mieux que jamais et l’ensemble est toujours exceptionnel.

Radiohead is one of these bands that never reached the masses. A pity while this band has changed the standards of nowadays pop music with their six previous albums. And that’s a fact. They brought pop to another level with their incredible world of weird, complex and beautiful compositions.

“15 Step” is the track that opens In Rainbows their seventh studio album. It’s the only track on the album with electronic drums and it gets more and more danceable with jazz influences. Thom sings like never before, composition is still weird, rhythms are uncommon and the basses are unique.

Radiohead es una de esas bandas que nunca han llegado a alcanzar un éxito de masas. Que oportuno cuando hablamos de una banda que ha conseguido llevar el pop a otros terrenos musicales en sus anteriores seis álbumes, gracias a sus extraordinarias, complejas, bonitas melodías y composiciones.

“15 Step” abre su séptimo álbum In Rainbows, y de hecho es el único corte que tiene un sonido electrónico en la batería para después convertirse en un ritmo bailable de influencias jazz. Thom canta como nunca, y los ritmos aun siguen siendo únicos.

Fairport Convention is probably the most influential British folk band. Launched in 1967 by the Americain producer Joe Boyd (who will also produce Nick Drake), the band gains success very quickly thanks to their first eponymous album. They will take a folkier path with the arrival of new singer Sandy Denny in 1969. The line-up of the band kept on changing, so much so that in 1973 no original member of the band remained. That won’t prevent them to let behind such brilliant albums as Liege and Lief and Unhalfbricking which features the beautiful “Autopsy”.

Fairport Convention probablemente sea una de las bandas mas influyentes en la historia de la música folk inglesa. Formada en 1967 por el productor americano Joe Boyd (que tambien produció a Nick Drake), la banda gana popularidad muy rápidamente gracias a su primer álbum. Tomaron el camino del folk con la llegada de su nueva cantante Sandy Denny en 1969. La formación de la banda cambiaría mucho por entonces, tanto que en 1973 ni un solo miembro original formaba parte ya del grupo. Pero esto no les supuso ningun problema a la hora de grabar álbumes tan brillantes como Liege and Lief y Unhalfbricking, donde aparece la preciosa “Autopsy”.

Les arrangements de son dernier album, Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon, sont plus étoffés, ce qui n’enlève rien à l’ambiance intimiste et surréaliste qui se dégage des chansonnettes de Devendra Banhart. “Cristobal”, qui introduit cet album, est l’un des rares morceaux en langue espagnole à peupler ses disques.

Devandra Banhart was born in Austin, Texas in 1981, even though he grew up in Caracas, Venezuela. Back in the United States for political reasons, he settled in San Francisco where he attended the San Francisco Art Institute. He will there gain certain popularity. His travels will lead him from Paris to Los Angeles before a New York City label calls him in 2002. On the latter he will release his first LP Oh Me Oh My…. The international success though will only happen in 2005 with the album Cripple Crow. Inspired by folk and psychedelia, his lo-fi music highlights his sense for melody and his surrealistic lyrics. Now living in Los Angeles, CA, Banhart is part of a new generation of musicians often labeled as naturalismo (in reference to Cateano Veloso’s tropicalismo), freak folk and even New Weird America.

His ultimate album, Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon, features more instrumentation. But it still has this intimist and surrealistic atmosphere that emanates from Devendra Banhart’s songs. “Cristobal”, the track that introduces this album, is one of few Spanish songs throughout his records.

Vuelve a los Estados Unidos por cuestiones políticas, y decide vivir en San Francisco donde estudia en la escuela e instituto de arte. Aquí ya empezaría a ganar cierta popularidad. Sus viajes entre Paris y Los Angeles no paran hasta que le llaman de un sello en Nueva York en el año 2002 para editar lo que sería su primer álbum Oh Me Oh My…. El éxito internacional crece aún mas con su disco Cripple Crow. Inspirado en el folk y la psicodélia, estos temas grabados en cuatro pistas destacan por sus melodías sensibles y sus letras surrealistas. Ahora vive en Los Ángeles, California, y forma parte de la nueva generación de músicos a veces llamada naturalismo (en referencia al tropicalismo de Caetano Veloso), freak folk o New Weird America.

Su último álbum, Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon, contiene mas instrumentación. Pero aún tiene ese intimismo y esa atmósfera surrealista que emana de las canciones de Devendra. “Cristobal”, el tema que abre el álbum, es una de las pocas canciones españolas que hay en sus discos.
