Miami Ice, Icy Demons (2008)

[FR] Icy Demons est un projet mené par Chris Powell (batterie) et Griffin Rodriguez (basse et chant). Après divers projets expérimentaux (Need New Body, Bablicon), les deux acolytes originaires de Chicago et de Philadelphie sortent en 2004 Fight Back!, premier album signé Icy Demons. Suivant une démarche toujours expérimentale, leur musique est pourtant loin d’être dénuée de mélodies accrocheuses. Il faut dire que celles-ci se marient à merveille aux textures chaleureuses des arrangements riches et complexes. Une multitude de sonorités s’entremêlent : claviers vintage, cuivres, percussions exotiques. Le groupe prolonge le travail de l’école de Canterbury et emprunte à Can ses rythmiques hypnotiques.

En 2008 sortait Miami Ice, le troisième effort du groupe, et son titre éponyme, son déluge de claviers et son riff de synthé entêtant.

[EN] Icy Demons is a project leaded by Chris Powell (drums) and Griffin Rodriguez (bass and vocals). After participating in many experimental projects (Need New Body, Bablicon), the Chicago/Philadelphia based musicians released their first LP Fight Back! in 2004. With their concern for experimentation still in mind, they tend to be more pop-oriented than they used to be. The melodies wonderfully match the warm textures of their elaborated arrangements. Many different sounds are mixed together: vintage keyboards, horns, exotic percussions. The band continues the work of the Canterbury scene and borrows Can‘s hypnotic rhythmic patterns.

Their third LP Miami Ice was released in 2008 and it features this eponymous piece with its flood of keyboards and its catchy synthesizer riff.
