North Sea Jazz Festival 2009

[FR] Le 10 juillet prochain s’ouvre le North Sea Jazz Festival. Pendant trois jours, 180 concerts regroupant plus de 1500 musiciens, vont se produire sur une quinzaine de scènes à Rotterdam aux Pays-Bas. Depuis son inauguration en 1976 par son fondateur Paul Acket, le North Sea Jazz Festival s’est imposé comme le plus grand festival jazz du monde, brassant plus de 70 000 visiteurs chaque année. Il est reconnu pour son éclectisme mettant à l’affiche tous les styles musicaux dérivant du jazz, du blues et du r&b. Les plus grands artistes soul, funk, gospel, hip-hop, world beat s’y sont côtoyés.

La programmation 2009 compte, parmi bien d’autres : George Benson, James Hunter, Erykah Badu, Raphael Saadiq, Herbie Hanckok, Yuri Buenaventura… ainsi qu’un petit groupe hollandais émergeant, les Young Sinatras, qui pourront rendre hommage à la sauce Big Band au Billie Jean du disparu Roi de la Pop mais surtout enfant du jazz et de la soul, Michael Jackson.

[EN] The 10th of July the North Sea Jazz Festival is opening. During three days, 180 concerts including more than 1500 musicians are going to play on 15 stages in Rotterdam, Nederland. Since its first breath given by its creator Paul Acket, the North Sea Jazz Festival became the largest jazz festival in the world with 70 000 visitors each year. The festival is known for its eclectic progam which is melting every kind of music styles inspired by jazz, blues and r&b. The biggest artists from soul, funk, gospel, hip-hop to world beat and latino grooves meet there.

Here you have few names from the 2009 shedule:  George Benson, James Hunter, Erykah Badu, Raphael Saadiq, Herbie Hanckok, Yuri Buenaventura… and also a smalll band from Holland called Young Sinatras that will be able to give a tribute, in a big band way, to the Billie Jean of our lost King of Pop but above all son of jazz and soul, Michael Jackson.
