The Art of Kissing, The Long Lost (2009)

[FR] Le premier album de The Long Lost, sorti en mars chez Ninja Tune, compile les EPs sortis depuis l’an dernier sur le label et morceaux inédits. Une sortie qui permet d’y voir un peu plus clair sur ce projet des époux Darlington (Alfred aka Daedelus et Laura).

“The Art of Kissing“, qui ouvre le bal, est une sorte de tropicalisme moderne, emmêlant guitare bossa-nova et rythmiques syncopées que n’aurait pas renié Goldie. La production dépouillée et les reverbs sur la guitare et la voix fragile de Laura, contrastant avec les percussions sèches, donnent à l’ensemble un aspect irréel, psychédélique, d’où se dégage une nostalgie envoûtante qui s’étend tout au long des quatorze pistes de l’album.

[EN] The debut album by The Long Lost, released in March on Ninja Tune, is a compilation of the band’s EPs released since 2008 on the label and new tracks. This release is a great opportunity to brighten this project by husband-and-wife Darlington (Alfred aka Daedelus and Laura).

The opening “The Art of Kissing” is a kind of modern version of tropicalismo, melting bossa-nova guitar playing with syncopated rhythms Goldie wouldn’t have disapproved. The lo-fi production and the reverbs on the guitar and Laura’s fragile voice, in contrast with the sharpness of drums, give an unreal and psychedelic feel to it. A bewitching nostalgia is surrounding the hole experience throughout the fourteen tracks of the album.
