‘Posed To Be, Breakestra (2009)

[FR] Cette rentrée 2009 sera placée sous le signe du groove ou ne le sera pas. Le brass band le plus funky de la West Coast sort son quatrième album. Breakestra promet une fusion de funk et de hip-hop complètement enragée. Ayant déjà démontré leur talent avec Hit The Floor en 2005, Miles « Music Man » Tackett, à la tête du brass band et aux côtés de Mixmaster Wolf, remettent le couvert avec les mêmes ingrédients, accompagnés d’une sauce toujours plus funky.

Dusk ‘Til Dawn est un disque en hommage à DJ Dusk, ancien partenaire de Miles « Music Man » à Rootdown, qui a rendu l’âme en 2007 suite à un tragique accident de voiture. Pour marquer le coup, DJ Dusk apparaît lors d’un rap funky sur “‘Posed To Be” aux côtés de Chali 2na (Jurassic 5) un autre ami de Los Angeles.

Après être passés par les cases Stones Throw et Ubiquity, c’est maintenant l’excellent label Strut (Mulatu Astatke & the Heliocentrics, Funky Nassau) qui se colle à la distribution de leur nouvel opus. L’album est à paraître le 21 septembre et le groupe se produira en concert le 25 octobre à La Maroquinerie.

[EN] The start of this new year school might well be under the sign of the groove. The most funky brass band from the US West Coast is back and ready to release its fourth album. Breakestra is a band delivering a mix of funk and mad hip-hop. With their previous LP Hit The Floor in 2005, Miles « Music Man » Tackett and Mixmaster Wolf already demonstrated their ability to make their grooves sound great, and are about to do it again, with the same ingredients and a funkier sauce.

Dusk ‘Til Dawn is a tribute to DJ Dusk, an old friend of Miles Tackett at Rootdown, who passed away in 2007 in a tragical car accident. In “‘Posed To Be”, DJ Dusk appears as a featuring alongside his other friend from Los Anelges, Chali 2na (Jurassic 5).

After they signed on Stones Throw and Ubiquity Records, they are now contracted to Strut Records (Mulatu Astatke & the Heliocentrics, Funky Nassau) now in charge of the distribution of the new LP. The upcoming album will hit the stores on September 21th with a world tour to begin in October.
