Midnight Sun, Natural Self (2009)

[FR] Derrière le projet Natural Self se cache le producteur Nathaniel Pearn, qui a sorti en 2001 son premier maxi Shake Down sur le renommé label Tru Thoughts. Après diverses collaborations aux côtés de Nicole Willis, Nostalgia 77 ou encore Quantic puis quelques sorties sur Breakin’ Bread sous les pseudos Keno-1 et Natural Self, c’est en 2008, qu’il retourne dans l’écurie Tru Thoughts pour signer The Art of Vibration. Un album parsemé de soul-jazz, de funk et de hip-hop, accompagné par la voix de la chanteuse soul Andreya Triana (Fink, Bonobo, Mr. Scruff).

Le retour de Natural Self est annoncé pour le 19 octobre 2009 avec l’album My Heart Beats Like a Drum, toujours sur le label de Brighton. Un disque forgé autour d’instrumentales funky et d’influences rétro pour donner une sorte de jazz futuriste. Toujours bien entouré, c’est cette fois-ci la française Elodie Rama, remarquée aux côtés des nantais d’Hocus Pocus, qui s’occupera du chant sur les titres “My Heart Beats Like a Drum” et “Midnight Sun”, que l’on vous propose de découvrir sans plus tarder car cette chanson annonce bien la couleur de l’album.

[EN] Behind Natural Self is producer Nathaniel Pearn, who released in 2001 his first 7” Shake Down on the famous Tru-Thoughts Records. After many collaborations with Nicole Willis, Nostalgia 77 and Quantic, and a few EPs on Breakin’ Bread under names Keno-1 and Natural Self, he would be back on Tru-Thoughts in 2008 with the album The Art of Vibration. A record sprinkled with soul-jazz, funk, hip-hop beats and the voice of soul singer Andreya Triana (Fink, Bonobo, Mr. Scruff).

Natural Self will be back on the Brighton label on October 19th with My Heart Beats Like a Drum. This record is made with funky intrumentals and retro influences to create a kind of futuristic jazz. French soul singer Elodie Rama can be heard on the tracks “My Heart Beats Like a Drum” and “Midnight Sun”, the latter you can listen to right now will give you an idea of the record’s tone.
