The eponymous LP is an all-killer-no-filler fusion of samba funk and samba rock, demonstrating the songwriting and vocalist talents of Meriti. <strong>Mahotella Queens</strong> • Abaculi Bethu • 1973 • Gumba Gumba, Gallo Record Company, Umsakazo Records Originally released on Gumba Gumba in 1973, single "Abaculi Bethu / Umculo Kawupheli" by the queens of mbaqanga, the South African style mixing Zulu traditional rhythms (marabi & kwela) with American jazz popular throughout the 60s and 70s, just got a well deserved remastered reissue through UK based label Umsakazo Records. Expect some infectious electric guitars, drums and vocals.
